Multimedia Viewer
All media, one experience

Overview

Manheim previously supported nine different image viewers across products, each with varying capabilities. To simplify and modernize the experience, I led the design of a single multimedia viewer that consolidates all functionality into one flexible solution.

This new viewer enables users to interact with high-resolution photos, 360° vehicle spins, video, audio clips, and categorized media—all within a consistent interface.

The Challenge

Over the years, Manheim had accumulated nine different image viewers, each built for specific products and use cases. This created inconsistency for dealers and inefficiencies for internal teams. We first needed to understand why so many viewers existed and identify common functionality worth preserving.

At the same time, it was critical to benchmark against competitors and uncover what clients truly expected from a modern viewer. Technology advancements were also raising the bar; dealers increasingly relied on video and audio features, such as engine noise, as part of their online research.

Additionally, the new viewer needed to align with Manheim’s design system and be built as a reusable component that could be deployed consistently across multiple products. With more buyers evaluating vehicles digitally rather than visiting auctions in person, delivering a unified, media-rich viewing experience became essential.

Business objectives:

  1. Standardize the Experience: Replace nine separate image viewers with one unified, flexible solution across all Manheim products.

  2. Enhance Dealer Confidence: Provide rich, interactive media (photos, 360° spins, video, and audio) to support more informed online vehicle research and purchasing decisions.

  3. Future-Proof the Platform Build a scalable viewer capable of supporting emerging media types and evolving dealer expectations as digital research continues to replace in-person auction visits.
